Terms of use

KnoBee is run by KnoBee Social India Private Limited. Last updated 10 October 2026.

These are the rules for using KnoBee. They are short on purpose. By using KnoBee you agree to them.

Who can use KnoBee

You need to be 18 or older to have an account, and you sign up with your own mobile number or Google account. One person, one account. Keep your login to yourself.

Your family tree

  • Add real people and real relations, as correctly as you know them.
  • You may add relatives who are not on the app. You may also add relatives who have passed away and mark them as no more. Add them with the care you would want for your own name. A member who has their own account is never marked as passed away by someone else.
  • The tree is shared by the family. The relatives you add are seen by your relatives, and the relatives they add appear in your tree too.
  • A person who joins can confirm or reject what others wrote about them. Relatives can object to an entry. An entry that close relatives report as not real is removed, and the points earned for adding it are taken back.
  • A family member can ask to remove a person who is not related or was added by mistake. Every KnoBee member of the family is asked; at least half must agree, and one relative saying "this is family" stops it. The removed person is told and can object. A member added to the wrong family can also leave it themself, after naming their own father and mother. Use this honestly: asking to remove a real relative to hurt them breaks these rules.
  • KnoBee may suggest that two entries are the same person. A merge happens only when a family member approves it, and it can be undone for 30 days.

Marriage in the tree

  • Adding a husband or wife, or two parents together, marks both people as married.
  • A divorce has to be accepted by the other person when they have their own account. Until they accept, nothing changes. When the other person has no account, there is nobody to ask, and it applies at once.
  • When a husband or wife is marked as passed away, the other one becomes a widow or widower, and the other way round.
  • Once someone has been married, divorced or widowed, or has a husband or wife in the tree, "never married" can no longer be chosen for them.

Invites

An invite to a relative goes from your own WhatsApp or SMS, in your name. Invite only people you know, and only as the relation they really are to you. KnoBee does not message your contacts by itself.

Messages that wait, and messages set for later

  • You can write to a relative who is in the tree but has not joined yet. The message waits, and arrives with its original time when that person finishes signing up. Until then you can take it back. A message waits for one year; if the person has not joined by then it is dropped and you are told.
  • You can set a message for a day, once or every year for up to 50 years, with the same words every year or different words for each year. It arrives in the normal chat on that day. You can cancel it at any time before it arrives.
  • We do our best to deliver these messages on time, but we cannot promise delivery years ahead, for example if the service changes or an account is deleted.

Family levels, badges and points

  • Your family tree has five levels. Level 1 is your own family: your father and mother, your brothers and sisters, and, when you are married, your husband or wife and your children. Level 2 is your father's side (his father, mother, brothers and sisters) and the husbands, wives and children of your brothers and sisters. Level 3 is your mother's side, the husbands, wives and children of your father's brothers and sisters, and your husband's or wife's father and mother. Level 4 is your father's grandparents, his father's brothers and sisters, the families of your mother's brothers and sisters, and your husband's or wife's brothers and sisters. Level 5 is your mother's grandparents, the families of your husband's or wife's brothers and sisters, and your grandchildren. Each level you complete gives a badge (Roots Unlocked, Fam Squad, Legend Era, Dynasty Mode, Main Character) and points.
  • A relative counts whoever added them. A relative who has passed away counts like anyone else.
  • When nobody fits a question, for example when you have no brothers or sisters, you can answer No and the question counts as done. Answer truthfully. About grandparents you can answer "Don't know"; that is not a No.
  • If a No turns out to be untrue, for example a brother or sister later joins or is added to your tree, the badge earned with that answer is void for good and its points are taken back. That badge cannot be earned again.
  • Points, badges and the Hive score have no money value. They cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged for cash or goods. We may change how they are counted, and we may remove points earned by breaking these rules.

Translation

KnoBee can show messages, posts and comments in your language. The translation is made by a machine translation service (Google), so the text is sent to it for that. The original is always shown with the translation. A machine translation can be wrong: when it matters, read the original.

Who is this?

You may use the camera to learn who a relative is. KnoBee compares a face print of the picture with the face prints of the family and shows who it may be, with how sure it is; it can be wrong. Use it only with people in front of you or in your own family's photos, and never to track or identify a stranger. Anyone can switch off being recognised in Settings.

What you share

  • Your photos, posts, messages and voice notes remain yours. You allow us to store them and show them to the relatives they are meant for, which is how the service works.
  • Share only what you have the right to share. Be careful with photos and news of other people, and of children in particular.
  • No abuse, threats, hate, harassment, sexual content involving minors, fraud, spam or selling. KnoBee is for family, not for marketing.
  • You can report a post or a person, and block a person. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

Matrimony

KnoBee shows possible matches from your own wider family network. We do not verify biodata and we are not a marriage bureau. Please make your own inquiries through the family, as you would for any proposal.

SOS and nearby inquiries

An SOS alerts your relatives on their phones, with an alarm sound where the phone allows it. It is not an emergency service, and we cannot promise that a phone will ring or that someone will respond. In an emergency call 112. Do not send a false SOS. If you have added your blood group, it goes with your SOS alert and is shown to your family on your profile, so relatives can donate or ask for blood.

The demo family

The demo family in the app is made up. Its people, photos and stories are not real, and any likeness to real people is by chance.
